And what RH is now, according to ceo Gary Friedman, is a retailer out to change the perception of what a home furnishings store can be in an age when more shopping is moving out of stores and onto online. "We don't want to change the face of retail, but rather give it a soul." And so the new Atlanta location - officially RH Atlanta, the Gallery at the Estate in Buck-head - is the personification of the soul of RH, the name the company now goes by. Long gone are the days of the cleaning products, mission-style furniture and gimmicky doodads that defined the original incarnation of the brand. They have been replaced with an estate-like store that spreads out over six floors, complete with double staircases, two-story main level, conservatory-like rooftop level and enough doors and windows to make the building seem as much a residence as retail outlet.
