As we all know, road bumps and speed cameras are much hated by motorists and much of the motoring press. In the last issue of this magazine, Steve Norris hailed the demise of the speed bump. That was a shrewd move for a man hoping to be London's next Mayor but, while it will play well with urban Michael Schumachers, it might not go down so well with other road users. At about the same time, the London Evening Standard carried an article boldly headlined "We need cops, not cameras". Oddly enough, although the author was fairly severe on cameras, his conclusion was "Keep the cameras. But let's get the police back on the roads." Who needs the text when the headline will do?
