Traffic flow system saves months

When widening works began at the Dartford Tunnel in 2007, contractor Costain wanted a fresh approach to help keep traffic flowing through the works. The solution? DRUM, the Dynamic Roadspace Utilisation Manager from MTS and TRL The innovative combination of high-tech hardware from MTS and dynamic software from TRL allowed the contractor to work on the network outside the times allotted by the Highways Agency. DRUM works by using the MTST25 solar-powered autonomous trailer fitted with SmartSensor HD side-fired high definition radar to acquire live, real time data on traffic flow.
