Perhaps not a year to look back on, more a year of looking back. Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' entered the album charts as the nation remembered that it was 70 years since the start of World War II. Meanwhile, the world of hi-fi saw the 40th anniversary of the Keith Monks record-cleaning machines.rnBig, heavy, too expensive for consumers in 1969, the machines sold to the BBC and other professional users, including hi-fi shops which offered a record-cleaning service. They still look expensive today, as there are many simpler and cheaper machines, but with their pedigree and, perhaps, the cachet of BBC patronage, they appeal strongly to well-heeled vinyl users.
