For the first time in an Arcam product, the D33 offers custom digital filtering options alongside the digital filter provided by the twin Burr-Brown PCM1792A DAC chips (one per channel). These custom filters were not designed by Arcam but are sourced externally, and both are minimum-phase FIR (finite impulse response) types applied in the D33's single XILINX field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. Being minimum-phase, their impulse responses have no pre-ringing before the main impulse peak, unlike Burr-Brown's linear-phase alternative.
