摘要

In 1982 the world of audio underwent a sea change with the introduction of the Compact Disc. Aided by promises of 'perfect sound forever' and demonstrations such as that on the TV programme Tomorrow's World in the UK, where presenter Kieran Prendiville showed that a CD could survive being spread with jam, the public were hooked and the technology was quick to take off. As a result, the large Japanese manufacturers were keen to ensure that their hi-fi ranges offered a player as soon as possible. Consequently, the first commercially available designs from Sony and Philips were soon joined by many stablemates. Some, such as the Marantz CD-63, were simply tweaked Philips players but others, like the Hitachi DA-1000, followed a different path. Yet there was one player that arrived on the scene quite early on and which is often forgotten, largely due to its rarity. The manufacturer in question was Yamaha and the player was the logically named CD-1.
