Imagine an elderly person living in a draughty house that is too expensive to heat, so they can never keep warm. More effective and controllable heating would transform their environment and wellbeing, and might mean they could maintain their independence for longer. Imagine that a family adapts a bedroom or builds a home extension for an older or vulnerable relative. That person may need more heat in their surroundings than elsewhere in the home. But, in both cases, it is impractical and disruptive to extend the main gas or oil heating system, often with complicated pipework, to heat one bedroom or an extension adequately.
