"Because of an increase in steel prices, new pro-ducers are forced to raise their prices or at least keep them on the same level," says Janus Vaten commercial manager, Robbert Spejer. "There are fewer reconditioners in our region that are well-equipped, have ISO 9001 and 14001 quality systems and which work according to strict government regulations, so overproduction is not a problem. Costs are strongly increasing while prices stay on the same level. To absorb these costs, we try to reduce costs as much as possible by working efficiently and reducing waste." Based in the Netherlands, Janus Vaten is making several internal improvements in its ongoing automation drive. Serving the Benelux region, northern France and western Germany, the company is increasing the capacity of its 200-litre open top drum line to service between 300 and 400 drums per hour. "By weighting and measuring, all the drums are made on the same height and diameter and can be provided with an internal food-approved coating, so we can assure our clients a consistent quality," Speijer explains.
