Newbuildinc eight 8,500 dwt chemical tankers ordered for the USC pool will be the first tankers of this size to join the fleet and are expected to not only replace older tonnage but enhance the services the operators can offer. In September 2003, the Bulletin reported on a contract for eight new chemical tankers ordered by Schoeller Holdings, owner of United Chemical Tankers (UCT). The original order was for four plus four tankers; the first four ordered from Sasaki Shipbuilding, based at Hiroshima, Japan and the next four from 1NP Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea. So far, three vessels have been delivered from the Japanese yard, with the last due in April 2005, The first vessel from the Korean yard is due this month and will be followed by the remaining three by January 2006.
