Hupac sees difficult market

Switzerland-headquartered private intermodal rail operator Hupac saw an overall decline in traffic volume in the first half of 2012, which the company says was due to both economic downturns in some European markets and notable service disruptions. The rail line passing through the Alpine Gotthard tunnel, a main artery for traffic between Switzerland and Italy, and a key Hupac route, was closed twice due to rock falls during the first half of 2012- once in March for five days, and once in June for nearly four weeks.
