Despite the considerable differences that exist between the carriage of dangerous goods by inland waterway and by road and rail, the regulations that govern the former in Europe - the ADN Agreement - are by and large in harmony with RID and ADR. There are, though, some important differences in the rules, not least in terms of vessel construction and the operation of tank vessels. On matters such as these the advice from fluvial experts is necessary.
