The 25th session of the UN Sub-committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonised System of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS) took place in Geneva this past July 1 to 3. The meeting was chaired by Maureen Ruskin (US) and attended by experts from 24 countries, observers from Thailand and Switzerland and representatives of the UN Institute for Training and Research (Unitar), the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the European Union (EU), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and 17 non-governmental organisations. The session was the first of four planned for the current biennium to agree changes to the GHS - the 'Purple Book' - that are due to be adopted this coming December.
