Preliminary results reveal that the "harder" the science (sciences that study the physical world are considered harder than those that study human behavior), the higher the likelihood of publishing results that disprove the research hypothesis. Leon Kass had been invited to describe his work as chair of the President's Council on Bioethics, a group of public intellectuals - not all of whom would call themselves, or be recognized as, bioethicists - appointed by then-President George W. Bush to advise him on matters bioethical. Elliott and Tina Stevens consider how professionalized moral expertise will influence private and public deliberation on bioethical issues; Zoloth notices (in passing) how the politics of the academy harm bioethicists and bioethics; Turner offers a sociological analysis of why bioethicists find certain topics interesting and others uninteresting; Myser describes the "white normativity" of U.S. bioethics; and Tod Chambers argues for yet more ad hominem critiques in bioethics, seeing such critiques as efforts to call attention to the social location of bioethical points of view.
