ONCE THEORY TO PRACTICE, NOW PRACTICE TO THEORY?

The past decade has seen a shift away from the historic precedent of architectural theory and experimental projects shaping the broader practice of architecture. Major changes in both the culture of practice and the work of our most sophisticated architects have led to this breach. How did this change come about? It is an interesting, if awkward, moment for practitioners. As the impacts of theory on practice fade, as new buildings abandon the scenography of metaphor and meaning, and as architecture as performance flourishes, will the profession of architecture be up to the task of delivering design as social construct and intellectual provocation?
