EPA rolls out more data-gathering park benches

Solar-powered benches that collect real-time data about air quality will be installed in five new locations around the country by the end of the summer, U.S. EPA said last week. The project is one way in which the agency is trying to promote the development of advanced air-monitoring technologies. EPA unveiled the design of the bench two years ago as part of a pilot program at South Regional Library in Durham County, N.C. EPA last week announced grants for the new benches, to be located in Connecticut, Kansas, Oklahoma, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
