BSEE investigating death of offshore worker in Gulf

The Interior Department is investigating the recent death of an offshore oil and gas worker in the Gulf of Mexico in what has become a deadly year for offshore work in the region. Fieldwood Energy LLC confirmed that a contract worker, whose name has not been released, was killed during routine operations May 15 on an unmanned platform roughly 50 miles from Louisiana's Marsh Island. The worker was conducting a non-emergency casing pressure test on a shut-in well when the pipe exploded, according to sources. Fieldwood reported that no other workers were hurt. The company reported in a statement on its website that it was "deeply saddened" by the loss of life. It also said the single well is shut in and poses no environmental harm.
