Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) yesterday pressed investor Warren Buffett to personally back a large dam removal project in Northern California that was recently called into question by federal regulators. "Your personal leadership on behalf of this remarkable environmental and cultural restoration," he wrote, "is essential at a moment when other investor-owned corporations are standing up to redress historical inequities." The four hydropower dams on the Klamath River belong to PacifiCorp, which is owned by Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. In a letter, Newsom highlighted how the four dams have had a devastating effect on salmon runs and, consequently, the Native American tribes who have depended on them to survive for millennia.
