More Taiwan makers join rigid-flex PCB line

Rigid-flex PCB production is strengthening in Taiwan, with more makers entering the line and market demand creeping up. Demand comes mostly from mobile phones and other handheld devices. At present, rigid-flex PCBs account for less than 3 percent of Taiwan's PCB production value, according to the Taiwan Printed Circuit Board Association. Taiwan PCB makers produced $5.94 billion worth of PCBs last year; the figure is forecast to jump to $6.57 billion this year. Wus Printed Circuit Co. Ltd started developing rigid-flex PCBs just last year. It has commenced production and began sending out samples last quarter. Mass production is slated this year. The company has so far invested nearly NT$1 billion ($30.3 million at NT$33:$1) in developing rigid-flex PCBs. It is now waiting for authorization from Japanese handset makers. The company plans to locate all its rigid-flex PCB production in Taiwan.
