TSMC, the world's largest foundry, said it has signed an agreement with the municipal government of Nanjing to finalize plans for the former's first 300mm wafer fab in China. TSMC announced the plan for the $3 billion fab investment in December last year. TSMC (Nanjing) Co. Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of TSMC managing a 12in wafer fab and a design service center, will be located in the Pukou Economic Development Zone, according to a press statement. The planned capacity is 20,000 12in wafers per month, and the facility is expected to ramp up TSMC's 16nm process during the second half of 2018.
