Life Protective or Carcinogenic Challenge? Global Forests Governance under Advanced Capitalism

Among critiques of global capitalism is the view that it has reached a stage that should be seen as carcinogenic. The most prominent exponents of this approach are the philosopher John McMurtry and the campaigner David Korten. Both have engaged in a dialogue with biological science to argue that global capitalism has mutated into a deep carcinogenic disorder that threatens the future of life on Earth by systemically degrading and depleting its environmental and social life hosts. I first sketch McMurtry's and Korten's analyses, drawing out their similarities in the process. I then apply these analyses to global forest governance.
