Betancourt's Disparities Leadership Program (DLP) at Massachusetts General Hospital is exactly the kind of focused, devoted effort we need to reduce disparities and, eventually, make them a thing of the past. As noted in his article, the DLP's work helps healthcare leaders "develop a strategic plan or advance a project to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare within their organization." Betancourt's approach-secure leadership buy-in, develop a strategic plan, collect data, make the data useful, educate staff, and incorporate cultural competence into wellness and disease management-dovetails with the Equity of Care model and reflects the lessons from Baylor Health Care System described by Allison and colleagues.
