The Great Recession hit Pennsylvania hard, but the business climate is showing new signs of life, thanks in large part to a more welcoming tax structure that is helping many companies to grow and add jobs. At over $600 billion, Pennsylvania's economy is the sixth largest in the U.S. Indeed, if the Keystone State were an independent country, its economy would rank as the 18th largest in the world. It is headquarters to some 50 of the nation's 1,000 largest public and private companies.
