Breakfast carts reach out to students

Chasco Elementary School has increased the number of daily breakfasts served by 20% to 30% with the use of carts. "We meet the students where they arrive," says Beverly LoPata, the school's food and nutrition manager. The four carts are strategically stationed at key places throughout the school, including par-ent and bus drop-off points and the covered waiting Carts area. By having the carts easy to access, LoPata says the students are able to get to their classrooms quicker and get on task. "Some teachers have told me they will ask their students if they ate breakfast and send them to get it if they haven't," she says. "Teachers can tell when they haven't eaten breakfast."
