摘要

The adoption of the three food additive directives—Sweeteners Used in Foodstuffs (94/35/EC), Colours Used in Foodstuffs (94/36/EC), Food Additives Other than Sweeteners and Colours (95/2/EC)—each of which include an obligation for Member States to introduce systems to monitor the usage and consumption of food additives, provided the stimulus for this ILSI Europe Workshop. The paucity of information on dietary intake, at the individual level, throughout the European Union (EU), the non-comparability of methodology used for assessing food consumption patterns and the difficulties of obtaining accurate data on additive usage levels, underlined the need for a review of the status quo in order to facilitate the generation of reliable, comparable data representative of the position across all the Member States of the European Union.
