Since making its post-restoration maiden flight on January 13 this year, Historic Flying Ltd's Supermarine Spitfire Tr.9 161 (G-CCCA) has enjoyed a successful season with the company based at Duxford, Cambs. While the two-seater has had plenty of airshow work, it is its role as a trainer that has proved to be particularly valuable. This Spitfire (PV202) was built as a single-seat LF.IX in 1944 at Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham. It was delivered to the RAF on September 18, 1944, and the following month entered service with 33 Squadron based at Merville, France, coded '5R-Q'. The fighter later moved to 412 Squadron RCAF, initially in Holland and then Germany, and during its service career PV202 completed an impressive total of 96 operational sorties.
