Biggin Hill begins work on fourth two-seat Spitfire

Supermarine Spitfire T.9 TE308 arrived at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar in South East London on November 21 where it will undergo a restoration to flight condition. The aircraft is destined to join the attraction's expanding Fly In A Spitfire experience programme. Rolled out on April 19, 1944, TE308 did not fly operationally during World War Two and was converted by Vickers-Armstrong to two-seat configuration for the Irish Air Corps. After serving as a trainer for ten years it ended its military days as an instructional airframe before being sold to a private buyer and registered as G-AWGB in 1968. It appeared in the film Battle of Britain and was purchased by Sir W J D Roberts at Shoreham the following year.
