The party's over... In the weeks leading up to the Dakota Fly-in of May 27 and 28 at Lelystad in the Netherlands, many enthusiasts laid bets on the number of Douglas DC-3 variants that would attend. Things were looking good until it started raining, and the weather forecast wasn't too brilliant for the event at Lelystad, an aerodrome below sea level. However, six 'big birds' made it. Four arrived from Scandinavia, a Soviet-built example from Hungary flew under a low cloud base over Germany to reach the venue, and a UK-based aircraft eventually 'escaped' from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. One of the French aircraft had to turn for home because of bad weather over Belgium, though it was a good try! Another French-based example didn't make the journey for the same reason.
