Malta's Heritage

If 'merlins over malta' and the end-of-the-war celebrations of late September 2005 didn't tempt you to visit the George Cross Island, you really should make sure it stays on your 'Things to do' list. Malta has a combination of attractions that make it hard to beat for anyone with even a passing interest in aviation heritage. From a UK-based point of view, we're talking loads of flights and only a 240-minute trip; a huge variety of hotels and 'deals'; they drive on 'our' side of the road; and there are attractions to suit everyone's taste, from antiquities and architecture to the raucous and the nocturnal. And English is the universal language... About that driving on the left... When I first visited Malta I meekly checked with the hire car company about which side of the road they drove. The man behind the desk replied: "We drive in the shade, sir." Very droll, I thought. He wasn't putting me at ease, he was giving me an astute assessment of driving in Malta!
