Son reunited with father's 'Lanc'

Relatives of Fit Sgt Frederic M Walker, an Australian navigator who died with his crew in the crash of Avro Lancaster IPD259, recently visited Waddington, Lines, the base from which Frederic made his final flight. The 463 Squadron bomber came down in remote and mountainous terrain near Kingussie, Scotland, on the night of August 31,1944. In a recent recovery mission (see December 2010 issue), substantial sections of the wreckage were removed from the location and returned to Waddington. A three-bladed propeller from PD259 is now sited within its memorial garden.
