British Secret Projects 3 - Fighters 1935-1950 Second Edition, Tony Buttler, hbk, illus, 224pp, £27.50 No stranger to the subject matter, FlyPast contributor Tony Buttler returns with a third title in Crecy's established series on secret projects. Originally released in 2004, this reworked volume maintains the earlier high standard and focuses purely on fighters - unlike the first which included attack aircraft and bombers. This amendment has created extra space, allowing the author to amend the text and include newly sourced material, line drawings such as the Folland Fo.118 and Westland P.13, data boxes and unseen photographs which are interspersed throughout. Split into 11 chapters and three appendices, this fascinating work includes the likes of the Bristol F.18/37, designed as a potential replacement for both the Spitfire and Hurricane, and Vickers' elegant twin-engined 432. Sadly, a few mistakes have made it past the proof-readers, but these do not detract from the well designed and informative text, which takes the reader into the fast-paced and at times almost eccentric world of fighter design. This is a superb addition to any aviation fanatic's library.
