Easily the most famous USAF combat pilot of the Vietnam War - famed for his tenure at the F-4 Phantom-equipped 8th Tactical Fighter Wing 'Wolfpack' - Col Robin Olds was instrumental in shaping 1967's Operation Bolo. This was the deception mission to shoot down North Vietnamese MiGs through air-to-air combat, by pretending to be bombers rather than fighters. The no-nonsense West Point graduate also gained ace status during World War Two, flying the P-38 and P-51.
