Pong II by Lance Atkins

Built in 1984 from plans published in the February edition of FM, the Pong II was my first radio control airplane, and did an excellent job of serving as my R/C trainer. The .049 engines of the time were fussy and the radio gear heavy so performance and flying opportunities were limited. The airplane was put into storage where it remained for most of the next 25 years, but in late 2011, I brought it out and refitted the plane for electric power. Outfitted with modern equipment, Pong II is a wonderful flying plane demonstrating the same good qualities that helped me learn R/C flying, but with better performance and, for the first time, throttle control. Flight times are 15-20 minutes of leisurely flying with loops and touch-and-goes for entertainment.
