Multi-lance textile and foam mat for skiing surfaces - structured to simulate the give or yielding nature of fresh snow

A compressible elastic mat for use as suitable surface on which to ski, has a composite structure of layers of fibrous and cellular materials in which a permeable fibrous mat (2) which is hard, flexible and slippery is supported by at least one, pref. two layers (3,4) of elastic cellular material and a substrate layer (5) of slightly less dense cellular material with superficial recesses to ensure adequate contact with the supporting earth or other foundations. The layers are bonded together by discrete patches (7) of adhesive. Pref. upper mat (2) is made of synthetic fibres and carries a renewable surface coating of a wax or a silicone prepn. The composite mat may incorporate a reinforcing layer of netting. Joints between adjacent mats pref. comprise bevelled butt joints reinforced with a layer of fabric which overlaps on to the upper and lower surfaces. USE/ADVANTAGE - For use either for training purposes or to cover patches of otherwise dangerous ground on an otherwise snow covered environment. The composite construction can be made to closely resemble the 'give' of a fresh snowy surface.
