Having provided in-service support to the UK Royal Air Force's (RAF's) tactical air-lifter fleet for a remarkable 55 years, Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group (MADG) knew that their relationship on the Lockheed Martin C-130 could not last forever. But the Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) March announcement that operations with the service's remaining 14 J-model Hercules would end in 2023 - 12 years earlier than previously planned - still came as "disappointing news" to the Cambridge airport-based company.
