A330neo decision expected 'by middle of 2014' - Airbus

Airbus indicates it will probably make a decision on moving forward with a re-engined A330 by the middle of 2014. A quick decision on the aircraft, unofficially termed the 'A330neo', is needed to ensure that it can compete with the Boeing 787 but not erode sales of the A350 when it enters service, said Airbus Americas president Barry Eccleston during the Phoenix International Aviation Symposium in early April. Eccleston said a "mid-year" decision was likely. While Airbus has not given a provisional entry-into-service date, various lessors at the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading Americas conference in March pointed to a 2017-18 timeframe in order to take advantage of limited A350 or 787 availability.
