Canadian low-cost carrier Westjet is bidding to attract cost-conscious business travellers by blocking middle seats on its Boeing 737s. The no-middle-seat premium economy product, which will also be available on its incoming Boeing 767-300ERs, will be a business class-like experience at a fraction of the traditional cost, helping attract more corporate travellers, says the airline. "It will position us to capture more of that segment," says Bob Cummings, WestJet's vice-president of sales, marketing and guest experience. He adds that corporations are increasingly price sensitive, typically only approving business class tickets for flights longer than 5h.
