This workshop focused on the key questions of what is causing false alarms and how they can be prevented, especially given different responses from fire services as to how they manage them. Paul Bishop kicked off proceedings by sharing a case study of how he helped implement a successful strategy to reduce false alarms at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London since becoming its fire safety advisor in 2009. He revealed that the hospital had suffered 64 false alarms from 2009-2010, prompting an initiative with the aim of reducing them by 10% year-on-year.
