I'd like to start my first ever column in FRM by saying how delighted I am to be taking over as chair of AIS. I'd also like to thank Andy Miller for the great work he's done as chair before me and for his help in handing over the reins. At this month's members meeting, I delivered a presentation on fog generators and how they are becoming an increasingly popular piece of technology to protect jewellers'premises. The systems deploy fog to reduce visibility to less than 100cm in the event of a raid. The AIS has written a code of practice on fogging systems to try and tighten up the effectiveness of these systems. This document has been drafted in partnership with a number of other organisations, including the National Security Inspectorate, SSAIB, Fog Bandit and the Metropolitan Police.
