Leaseholder of flats fined for fire safety failings

JAYNE BROWN, the leaseholder of a block of flats in Bristol, was sentenced on 25 February at Bristol Crown Court after pleading guilty to breaching a prohibition notice handed out by Avon Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) in 2019. The recorder Mr Malcolm Gibney gave Ms Brown a 12 month term, suspended for two years. He fined her £100,000 and told her to pay prosecution costs of £7,450 in six months, or be jailed for nine months in default. She was also ordered to undergo 25 days of rehabilitation and attend a nine month alcohol treatment programme.
