Explosive (I), esp. permissible explosive, contains explosive component(s) (II) and additive(s) (III) to ensure safety in fire damp. (II) consists of high explosive(s) with an average particle fineness less than 10 microns. Average particle size of (II) is 5-6 microns and/or 90% of (II) particles are finer than 10 microns. (II) pref. is hexogen, octogen and/or nitropenta and may also contain nitroglycerin. (II) is used in amts. of 5-25 (wt.)% and is mixed intensively with (III). (III) consists of at least one salt pair component. (I) may also contain an oxidant (IV), esp. KClO4, a desensitiser (V), esp. diethylene glycol, and other additives, esp. carbonates, oxides, stearates, oxalates, flour and swelling agents. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) is more powerful than nitroglycerine, making (I) esp. economical in (coal) mining, since fewer charges are needed per firing
