Experience has shown that clients often request metal analysis on activated carbon (AC) samples for a lot of different purposes. Sometimes the client wants to know the water leachable metals and other times the acid extractable metals. Clients want to know the source of the starting material. Point-of-use (POU) clients need to deal with arsenic problems on carbons. Occasionally clients need to know the metal impregnants in carbon materials and the porous sorbent locations. Methods have been applied to help solve these client problems. Gravimetric Adsorption Energy Distribution (GAED) full characterizations can pinpoint where the chemical im- pregnants have been added to the pore structure.
