The level of the freight rates measured by the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) is determined by a large number of complex factors on both the demand and the supply side of the dry bulk market, such as the world economy, the composition of the seaborne trade, the size of the world dry bulk fleet, fleet productivity, political events, freight rates and expectations to mention but a few.
