After the Hebei Spirit accident outside the coast of South Korea in December 2007, more and more countries are trying to limit the use of single hull tankers. South Korean governments have stated that they will reduce oil imports on single hull vessels and ban them from 2011. Other Asian countries have followed, and the trade in single hull tankers is decreasing. The question is how long the phase out process will take, and how it will affect both the single hull and double hull tanker markets in the meantime.
