The Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia, Canada, issued a "request for submissions of expressions of interest" on July 16 for the design and construction of fast ferries for service in Halifax Harbour. However, an order for the vessels is not imminent. According to the HRM, "This request is for information only. It is designed to assess the interest of qualified fast ferry designers and/or builders in the project and constitutes the first phase in a possible two phase process. The interest expressed through this process will be considered, along with other research, analysis and stakeholders' consultation findings, to evaluate workable options for the Halifax Harbour service.
