Government funding for Halifax fast ferry project

The Canadian government has awarded the province of Nova Scotia funding of C$13 million for the introduction of a fast ferry service in Halifax. The government reports, "The Halifax Regional Council has endorsed a decision to use this funding for the Harbourlink water transit service project." The service will run between Bedford and downtown Halifax, a distance of 6 nautical miles. Responding to the award, Halifax mayor Peter Kelly said, "We welcome this investment in our transportation infrastructure. Harbourlink has been discussed by Halifax Regional Council for several years as a potential opportunity, to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and get people out of their cars and into an environmentally friendly mode of transportation."
