World grain trade has tended to disappoint expectations over much of the 1990s, primarily because of a sustained improvement in yields and, hence, self-sufficiency. However, the seaborne trade of soyabeans/meal has continued to grow, accounting for most of the growth in the grains trade overall, which is an important strand to Handysize and Panamax employment.
