The reality of a container hub terminal being built adjacent to the Scapa Flow oil terminal in Scotland's Orkney islands has moved closer with the declaration in June of a bidding process to develop and operate a transhipment facility. That announcement, made jointly by Scotland's Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Orkney Islands Council, sought preliminary proposals from developers and operators by November from which a short list would be agreed in December. A decision on the preferred bidder will be declared in June 2002.
