The financial tsunami which has overwhelmed the shipping industry could have been worse had it happened in 2006 or 2007, according to Petrofin MD Ted Petropoulos. He told the Greek ShippingrnSummit in Athens last week: "we could have merrily continued to build until we got hit by a crisis." Petropoulos is a member of the glass-half-full school of thought, and believes the crisis should be seen as"an opportunity and a test" which will allow a more balanced market to evolve if fewer ships are built.
