Will The Recession Bring Equivalent Of It Snow Days?

I live in North Central Massachusetts, which was hit hard in mid-December by an ice storm. The schools in our district were closed first due to power outages and then because they were being used as shelters for folks whose power was out for more prolonged periods of time. All told, eight days of school were canceled.Those days, combined with the planned holiday vacation, kept students out of school for about three weeks. It would be nice to look at it like an extended break, but a certain number of school days are mandated by law. Now we have to pay the piper. With a hard stop, if you will, at June 30, some districts are eliminating February vacation to make up for the shortfall, while others will require that students attend school on Saturdays. (The latter solution is being implemented in the district I live in, much to the chagrin of my kids.)
