摘要

There is room for improvement in the management of projects financed under the Financial Instrument for the Environment (LIFE), states the EU Court of Auditors in a report made public on 22 September. The report' assesses the effectiveness of the European Commission's management of subsidies granted to LIFE-Nature projects in terms of the sustainabil-ity of their results. Overall, the projects audited contributed to the conservation of targeted species and habitats, notably in Natura 2000 sites, thus contributing to thernmember states' efforts and supporting the volunteer work and commitment of EU citizens and their associations in support of biodiversity conservation.rnAlthough considerable progress has been made in management and control systems since the launch of LIFE (1992), particularly with the start of LIFE+ (2007-2013), these systems can be further improved to obtain assurance that EU-funded conservation measures fulfil their objectives more effectively and are sustained after funding ceases.
